I'm surprised that there isn't a movement by "womyn" to change it to Femsa.

  1. The word comes from the latin word for "table" (like "mesa" in spanish and portuguese). This has nothing to do with men and women, and is in no way offensive to proponents of gender equality.

  2. no, i don't care.

  3. Yeah..speaking of which, why do girls go to the gynocologist..shouldnt it be the girl-nocologist?

  4. I'm just as surprised about them sparing Manchester from being forced into Personchester.

Tell me which sounds cooler, Mensa or personsa?

I always go for cooler names, not for politically correct ones. And for me, Mensa is cooler.

  5. Actually I kind of like that idea:

    Femsa: Geniuses with b***s!

  6. that is FUNNY, I'll have to remember that one!!!

  7. ur an idiot. its nothin to do with gender.

(i also want to show off that i got into mensa wen i was 12 with an iq of 164... einstein can eat my dust!!)

i am jkn btw (but its tru)

  8. No, they are probably happy we have the Broad Institute.

Iknoevry...: Mine is 165. I win!

Seriously, I support equality for all. Political correctness though, has gotten out of hand. I was talking to Sherman Alexie (the famous Indian poet) and he said that American Indians actually prefer to be called Indian. He said that the only people who get offended when you say Indian are white people. PC is intolerable.

  9. yea!

    right on!

    *flushes toilet*

  10. Simply because you are a man does not mean you can get in- sorry rollie - they do have their standards.

  11. It's not mensa as in MEN, but mensa comes from the latin word "table" which is their logo.

They use the table as saying it's a table of equal people.

  12. dude.

The name comes from mensa, the Latin word for "table", and indicates that it is a round-table society of equals (although the logo can be seen as depicting a square table, or Parsons table with only three legs visible).

    srsly.

  13. LOL! That's a good one!

They are highly 'offended', embarrassed even, but they don't want you to know it. That's why they are earnestly diverting your attention to the origin of the word 'mensa'!

  14. If you've ever met any Mensa men, you'd wonder how they got in.

  15. Feminists are offended by anything and everything that has the word "men" in it or has to do with men in any way.

  16. It's Latin, for crying out loud. Do you seriously expect us to be offended by this c**p?

  17. The asker is making a pun. Fine if you don't like puns, but please stop over analyzing it. You're embarrassing your high IQs doing that.

Many of those answering this need therapy.

  18. I am not because I am smart enough to know that Mensa had nothing to do with men. But then neither does being intelligent have to do with a particular s*x.

  19. that's a good one.

  20. they have their bloody darn meetings every month, don't they? ;-)

  21. They should name the women's arm of MENSA to MENSTRUA

  22. You are funny!  I'll bet there are one or two who would like to see it changed!

  23. Not at all.  It IS appropriate that MENstruation is spelled that way because MENstruation is nasty and a painful mess.

Feminists are not what you think.

  24. probably the name doesn't come from the word men... but from a latin word

  25. mensa means stupid in spanish

    because im mexican =)

and it really has nothing to do with men, woman

    okay?

it has to do with a high iq and the name being "stupid"

this question is pretty dumb in my  opinion
