...Testament?

5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Ephesians 5 (NEW TESTAMENT)

  1. It doesn't apply if you're living together.

  2. Followers of all religions are deluded

  3. I am a Christian and I am also a strong woman who believes I am of equal worth to any man. In any case I'm not married but even if I was, I wouldn't ever submit myself to anybody, male or female, unless I believe they deserve it.

The Church has in any case moved overwhelmingly with the times. There are very few people who believe in interpreting the Bible literally these days. The Old Testament, for example, is to a great extent a handbook for the survival of a desert tribe 5,000 years ago. Not too relevant today, so we treat it with respect while interpreting it in a modern context. It doesn't mean we're not true Christians!

  4. Funny old ball game, going by the doctrines of 2000 odd years ago..

  5. christianity is perverted

  6. That right there is a tough question to answer.  I personally believe that if the Bible says it you have to follow it.  But there is a limit.  I am sure that when Paul the Apostol wrote those words he did not mean that women would not be able to get a job and only be at home, cleaning the house and making babies.

In a household there has to be order.  And the Bible says that women should submit to their husbands but if the husband is a looser that doesn't work and mistreats his family then the woman does not have to submit to his will because he is not acting in the best interest of the family.

You have to remember that when God handed down the punishment for Adam's and Eve's disobedience God told Eve that "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." Genesis 3:16 so there is a reason why Paul wrote those things in the Bible.

But yes, women can work and have their own careers outside the homestead and not sin.  As for the feminist, if they are obeying their husbands then they are ok in the eyes of God.  If not they are disobeying and therefore in sin.

  7. What is a Christian?  Someone who believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ and follows his words.

The words you quote were written by Paul.

I do believe in harmony in marriage, and Christ treated his followers with respect, love and affection, be they man or woman.

I take exception to the idea that woman must be subservient to bullying men, because of their gender.  I'd rather not marry if that was the case.

As it is, I believe that God gave me a brain and I use it as I think best.

My own husband isn't keen on being the "head" of our family - it interferes in his own interests.  So he leaves the running of our family  and household to me.  Does this make me an "unsubservient" woman?

Edit:  I've been thinking about your question and wanted to add:  in today's society women have to be "strong" - in those days marriages didn't break up - people were stoned for committing adultery, for example.  There was no p**n, no blasphemy, evryne kept to the rules.  In today's society no woman can rely on a man to keep her and their children - so most women have to learn to stand up for themselves.

As for g**s - well, if it offends God, let him deal with it.  He could strike them dead.  But he doesn't.

  8. all christians are all perverted fagots

  9. You are so right. Christianity is not compatible with a woman thinking for herself. A woman has to choose between rejecting Christianity or accepting  domestic slavery.

  10. All Christians are deluded

  11. ah... last I heard Christians aren't even good catholics and catholics aren't good orthodox catholics.

define christian and then we shall see.

this is where in lie the problem.

(yes to the few who do)

  12. my answer is go preach in the spirituality forums

  13. I'm not a Christian but if Christians don't believe in the Bible they are just people doing what THEY think is right in THEIR opinion.

If everyone is just deciding for themselves, how can it be called a religion?

  14. Dearie me child, please stop taking things out of context and making a thesis around it.

submissive does not mean weak. If a wife wants to work, or stay at home, or be prime minister she can be. With the support of her husband. the fact that your husband is the head of the household does not give him the right to abuse, beat, or mistreat his wife in any way. He should also be under the will of God which will encourage him to treat his wife properly. You can be a chrisitan couple were the man stays with the kids and the woman works. Its not the victorian concept of stupid woman at home and keeping her gob shut.

Feminism does not negate the role of men in society, it emphasises the equality of women in such things as opinions, employability, value etc.

  16. here and there it says about loving and respecting other people equally, just here and there not big deal...it also teach equality in to a marriage as before the eyes of god we are all equal.thing is like any religion, is soooo open to interpretation, people then make things up and the interpretation change. in your case a sexist, insecure, probably ignorant too, the interpretation is to obey the husband...the reality is different...you just commited a sin.thinking to be above someone else: arrogance. See I can just turn it as I want to.I know I used this against the nuns in boarding school. It's sooo easy to destroy catholic theories i got bored when i was 15......
