Are ferrets more agile in the wild?

It amazes me black footed (wild) ferrets' diet is prairie dogs. Domesticated ferrets seem to awkward and slow. Is there a big difference between domesticated and wild in agility? I heard somebody say a ferret can kill a cat too, how could that be? Cats seem alot quicker. Ferrets dont seem to really run fast they just kinda hop along.

  1. Ferrets are viscious. You just got a retarded one.

  2. Black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes) and domestic ferrets are different species. The domestic ferret is the descendant of the European polecat (Mustela putorious), which was orginally domesticated for hunting rabbits - it would obviously need to be fairly quick and agile to catch such swift prey. Like most animals, they do not move fast until they need to. Both black-footed and domestic ferrets can be quick and agile, though like many domestic animals, pet ferrets are often overfed, which can make them overweight and lazy. I highly doubt that either could kill a cat, however - cats are larger, stronger and better armed.

  3. yes.but it's not always on the positive side....

you see, ferrets, like ALL animals, are more agile in the wild as they feel more free there and there are no enclosures to keep them locked in a certain place.they can be themsleves on the wild as they are guided by their natural instincts.that's where the usual phrase comes in:"born to be wild".

but of course,it's always a good thing.being on the wild causes them to be more agile, yes, but there in the wild, they are prone to danger.they may feel free but they also makes a good prey for other wild predators as they more easy to spot on the wide open grasslands(wild ferrets usually lives there).this makes them available prey for animals.this causes them to use their instincts causing them to run faster unlike domesticated ones where they are safe with their owners.this also lengthens their life span.wild ferrets have much shorter life span than most domesticated ones.

on your other questions:ferrets don't necessarily kill cats.both of the naimsl will have the same position when they fight as both have their own advanteages and disadvatages.it depends on mere luck and how the animals are raised who will win between the two.

remember:back them when ferrets are not yet domesticated, they are used as hunting animals to drive rodents and rabbits out of their holes and hiding places.

    i hope i helped!

  4. What ferrets have you been around??? They would have no trouble hunting and killing something. It's amazing how fast they can move.

The reason I think they wouldn't survive in the wild is because they'd bounce right off a cliff.

If it's your ferret, make sure he's not over weight. Try getting their attention with a toy and then toss it a bit and let him chase it. See how fast he can move. If not, you have a very lazy ferret
