Are fevers contagious?

bc this guy i sit next to during class had a fever on tuesday and i had it 2 days later so yeah contagious?

  1. You can't catch a fever, but you can catch a virus which gives you a fever.

A fever is simply your body's way of trying to kill a bacterial infection or virus in your body.  It is raising your body temperature to trying to get you better.  A fever itself isn't contagious, but whatever is causing the fever may be.  Generally doctors tell you not to be around others for 24 hours after a fever truly goes away (not due to medicine).  

    So basically you didn't catch the "fever" per say, you caught whatever ailment this guy had that was causing him to have a fever.

  3. fever is a symptom of some disease process or infection. if the fever is related to some type of infection, the infection can be contagious

  4. fever may not be contagious but the underlying disease which caused the fever may some times be a contagious.
