  1. Fish are a great hobby but most hobbiest quit because they dont get the right info from the start and run into problems as i did. misguided and ripped off. so please research before you start.i have not quit but i have learned a lot with research. it all depends on what fish you want as to how hard it is. goldfish are easier than tropical fish. tropical are easier than marine fish. good luck and hope you get that aquarium.

  2. depending on the size, you can get lots of different species, anywhere from colorful schooling tetras, to graceful angelfish (there is freshwater angelfish) even a species of catfish that swims upside down. compatibility is the main issue here. a common misgrouping is neon tetras, angelfish, and tiger barbs. neons hardly reach an inch, but angels hit 6 inches easily. the end result is no more tetras, and a bloated angelfish. barbs, however, are fin nippers, who will shred the angelfishes long fins.

my current grouping is: 3 blood-fin tetras (they are bigger than neons and wont get eaten) 6 wcmm (about the same size as the blood-fins) 4 swordtails (careful, 2 males will fight each other) an angelfish(he's currently about 1.25 inches long rite now) 2 siamese algae eaters, also called flying foxes. (4 inches long and funny to watch) (watch out for chinese  or golden algae eaters, these get 10 inches long and are MEAN) and i have 3 upside down catfish on the way.

i have a 40 gallon tank, so this grouping works out

  3. OH MY!! that sounds exciting! If it a first fish tank I recommend starting out with some easier fish to keep.

Guppies, Barbs, Rasboras, Danios, Cory's, DWARF Cichlids, Platies, Loaches, Rainbowfish, and Tetras.

Yes, fish are great! I love fish! When you get the basics down you will really enjoy just watching the tank.

  4. Fish are awesome!  There's something just so cool about watching fish swim around and do their thing.  I don't know what it is, but it's relaxing and entertaining at the same time.  Fish are more interesting than most people think.  If you watch them for a while you will see.  They do more than just swim back and forth.  Especially if you get a group of community fish.  They interact with each other and play weird games and have all sorts of different personalities.  Once your dad has the tank set up, sit and watch them for a while and get to know the fish.  See if you can figure out which one in the tank is the "boss fish" and who is at the bottom of the "pecking order".  You won't be sorry!
