Are flight attendants supposed to serve alcohol to minors on the plane?

My son just flew by himself from Houston to Chicago on American, and upgraded to First Class. He was served wine with his dinner, which he accepted, just to see what they said, and the flight attendant gave him a glass and even offered him more later in the flight. He's 18 years old. Was this legal?

i heard some states don't have laws regarding alcohol consumption in airplanes.  see what states the plane passed over and check online to see.  mostly likely this is the case. if not, then ask your son if he has a fake id you don't know about lol

No it isnt. If it was a domestic flight then he should be 21 to legally drink

BUT  liquor control has always been very leniant in the air. As long as you look anywhere near 21, and especially in first class, they will probably serve you. Mainly because its under federal jurisdiction, not state law. Liquor laws are ussualy state laws, so sometimes these things fall through loopholes. I used to drink on airplanes when I was 19-20 years old, and dont ever remember getting carded. Although these days they are stricter about it. I have seem them question peoples ages before.

no-sometimes the flight attendents cant tell the real age.  In other places in the world the drinking age is lower and higher.  She should've still asked for identification.  Tell airlines and get a free ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really work it out.  you can get things for free!!

The flight attendant was remiss, but as for your son -- good on him. I've done the same thing when I was a minor.

it depends on the country where the airline is registered eg Aer lingus  is registered in Ireland so the drinking age there is 18 .So if an American came on board even though he is american and its 21 .he can still be served . But as you know yourself people can look older than they are .I nearly served a 16 year old alcohol but to this day I still think he looked 18 and a lot of other people agreed with me on it .
