  1. stupid question, but anyway

    F1

    0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 2.0 seconds

    0 to 200 km/h (124 mph): 3.9 seconds

    0 to 300 km/h (186 mph): 8.6 seconds

    decelerate from 100-0 km/h (62-0 mph) in about 17 metres (55 ft)

F1 racecar can get up to more than 3.5 G cornering

    Now Nascar>

30 MPH/0-60 MPH (sec.) 3.25/6.21 (they must do their testing at lower speeds)

    1/4-MILE (sec./mph) 10.5/130.1

BRAKING 60-0 MPH (ft.) 99 ft.

    SKIDPAD 200 FT. (lateral g) 1.12

Maggie "yes but they aren't as fun or exciting to watch."

Yeah if you like watching big heavy  primitive cars going in circles with yellow flags coming out every few laps.

I love seeing the thumbs down from the Nascar people. Whats the problem? Seeing that your cars are inferior to that of the most watched (by the world) sporting event.

  2. yes, they are in general far faster, both on acceleration and average speed during a race. i'm guessing (but not positive) that they are faster on the top end as well - didn't rusty wallace take a restrictor plate off at talladega and run over 230mph? i'm guessing that formula one and indy cars both, because of their lighter weight, greater downforce, and advanced technology could top that easily - i know they go that fast at various points in races, but i don't know what their top speeds are overall. i can pretty much guarantee they aren't as fast as one of my other favorite motor sports - nhra.

and "vader," the thumbs-down have nothing to do with nascar fans liking an "inferior" car - in fact, they are superior in many respects - ever try putting the old adage that "eight tires are better than four" going into a corner into effect at an open wheel race? acceleration, speed, and technology are not all there is to racing. i'd much rather watch cars that can handle a little "beatin' and bangin'" and some three- and four-wide racing and passing than a long game of "follow the leader."

and i'm also pretty sure that more than at least one of the "thumbs-down" come from people who just don't like your attitude. no need to put "stupid question" at the top of your answer. i'd bet all the money i've ever had that you've asked questions out of "ignorance of the facts" in your life and that i could find a dozen topics within minutes where you'd have nowhere near the knowledge that the majority of the long-time fans on here have. heck, i've looked through your questions and have found more than a handful that i as an IT professional and editor might consider "stupid" if i felt the need to put you down. but like the people who answered your IT and english comp questions, i simply look at it as you not knowing something and asking for info. for being an @$$, here's a thumbs-down from me.

  3. Yes they are faster. No question, simple physics at work.

Less weight + more horespower = faster.

h**l, even VADER could figure that out. Maybe the thumbs downs are for the smarta$$ answer, not the truth.

Stay in F1 where you belong. Let the computers run the time trials, then sit back and watch the conga line for 2 hours. Because gosh knows, if you f**t too hard near one of those F1 cars you will flip it over, or get it dirty and race over.

  4. yes but they aren't as fun or exciting to watch.

  5. Yes definitely. I don't know about F1 to NASCAR only having the Trading Paint special on SPEED to compare. If I remember correctly Jeff's Sprint Cup car did the F1 road course in 30 something seconds whereas the F1 did it in 15 seconds or so.

    Qualifying (1 lap @ Indianapolis)

    IRL

    237.498 mph/382.216 kph

    NASCAR

    186.293 mph/299.782 kph

  6. Oh yes by quite a bit. They are also more high tech and expensive and take a bit more skill to drive. The G forces are greater stopping starting and cornering. And just to clear the air IRL cars and F1 cars have one thing in common. No fenders....

  7. Yes. Totally different animals.

  8. if there was no restrictor plate they would be close f1 230 mph nascar 190 to 200 indy 200 to 210

  9. Yes. They weigh 1,500 pounds vs. 3,000, plus their horse power is over 1,000 compared to 850.
