Question:

Are freestyle skiers almost as rude and reckless as snowboarders?

Yesterday, I'm JSA and this kid hits this side kicker just as I go by on-piste. I was clearly downhill from him when he started and he hit the kicker anyway, never checked, never called out and I swear he must have landed about a foot behind my tails. Then, two runs later, another kid on twins mached it over a headwall and missed my buddy by about two feet.

I've seen some poor manners at my home hill and on various other slopes as well.

Anyone else see the same thing?

  1. working at a resort i've seen lots of different sides of the whole snowboard/ski debate. I've seen *** hole skiers, awesomely cool skiers, *** hole boarders and awesomely cool boarders.

I've come to believe that the teenage ski racers, at least on the mountain i go to, are the most annoying. They think just because they pay enough money to close a run for their practice and they can go fast they own the mountain, total jerks who just cut people off in line, i've had many arguments with them...

I've seen a******s and non-a******s that ride park, just depends on the person. not everyone who rides/skis the park are jerks, but they're given that image because there is a large majority of asses that rip up the park. It's really a shame.

  2. okay first of all "JJ" is a ***** and skier are much more skilled and fun to watch then snowboarders in the park id rather see some skier who knows what hes doig come up and hit a kicked then some loser snowboarder who thinks he knows what hes doing hit it. But i agree some of the skier can be rude like snowboarder but some snowboarder can still be considerate it just depends on the person just respect everyone and ull get respect by the people who you really need to get it from dont give those little pukes who dont have respect for you any respect. i know it sounds corny but in the park treat other the way u want to be treated

  3. It is just a case of teenage boys being reckless and carefree

I really don't think they want to hurt anyone

    They just DON'T THINK themselves

  4. Yes.

I think that a large portion of freestyle skiiers and park boarders are teenage guys who as a demographic can be quite careless and reckless.

I haven't seen any exhibits of it but it doesn't suprise me.  Sounds like it'd go hand in hand with the statistics about young males having more car accidents.

  5. Skiiers who can also snowboard rule!

  6. Mostly were i am all the freestyle skiers are the cool ones and its all the racer punks that go though the park and have no respect and bug the c**p out of people that no one likes

But usually its just the snowboards who think there everything that are really annoying.  All the freestyle skiers i know are really nice and stop to aid any fallen skier. some people just don't have respect for anyone else but once they take a really hard fall  or crash into someone they will.

  7. snowboarders are aswome skiers just SUCK!!!!

  8. I like to think of ski areas as cities.

-The off-piste areas being the upscale neighborhoods with fewer people and they tend to be more experienced as far as manners with regards to other skiers.

-The on-piste areas are like suburbs, a variety of individuals with different attitudes and/or abilities. People just learning who respect others but may have control issues, advanced skiers who just may be taking a leisurly glide down some intermediate trail, or a hard-charger working on advancing his skills to zip through some moguls.

-And then there's the park. The ghetto of the mountain. A place where skiers and boarders go to grandstand their skills(or lack there-of) under the watchful eyes of everyone riding up the lift. I firmly believe that if they would move the parks away from the lifts many incidents would be avoided.

Another thing about freeskiers and boarders is they're control and their perception of respecting other skiers' space. Often they're on fairly short twins to give them more control and many are experienced and do have positive control all the time. In some of these persons' eyes, if they are a foot or two away on the uphill side of another skier they're safe. They're not worried about themselves hitting someone, it's the others on the mountain hitting them, and a downhill skier/rider doesn't have much chance of colliding with them.

Yes it is reckless, the guilty ones just never learned or don't abide by rules or principles governing skier space and right-of-way.
