Question:

Are frequent nosebleeds common for a two year old?

My son had an accident in the local playground. He hit his face with a springy toy in the playground which resulted in quite a severe nosebleed,

For the past 5-6 weeks he's had a nosebleed once or twice a week. Its doesn't pour out, just trickles out. Mostly it collects at the end of the nostril.

Im noticing this more and more. Does anyone know whether this could be anything serious?

  1. well I would take him to an E.N.T, (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor to get it checked out.  Me and my daughter had to have our noses cauterized since we were so frequent nose bleeds and now I have none, but my daughter ocassionally gets one.

  2. My son was just a baby when I would awake to find him in a beautiful bassinet turned blood bath. It was scary. He continued with these massive nose bleeds up until school. I had his nostrils cauterized x2 as the capillaries were so close to the skin that they would just burst but soon enough would stop. No need to bump head etc. He could be watching TV and just happen. I got him cauterized as I didn't think the school would be able to deal with just massive nosebleeds and not great fro him either. I found running cross country, hot weather and headaches would be a guarantee nose bleed that night. So I have since been giving him Vit C to strenthen those capillaries and he has improved lots. Rarely has a nosebleed and if so minor not gushing as it used to be and he is now 8yrs of age. PS It was advised to me that it isn't a great idea to cauterize too often as the purpose of the bleed is to release pressure. So bear that in mind! Hope it helps!

  3. I would make an appointment with his doctor.  Better to be safe then sorry

  4. no and i don't think you should solicit medical advice on here. he could have hit a sensitive place on his face/head and you just don't know what is going on. none of us do. set your mind at ease and take him in for a check up.

  5. My son had a bout with nosebleeds when he was around 2 yrs old as well.  He is now 4 and has them only occassionally now.  We never knew what started them or why... but they seem to have slowed down drastically.
