Is a grapefruit considered a pure substance, not element, but compound?

If you know could you please also tell me whether its homogeneous or heterogeneous?

Fruits and vegetables are comprised of many different chemical compounds (starches, sugars, proteins, etc.) .  Therefore, fruits and vegetables are mixtures.  Also, this mixture of compounds is not truly uniform throughout.  For example, in a hot pepper, more capsaicin (the hot stuff-owwwwwch!) is located in the placental tissues (where seeds hang out) of the pepper.  As a result, fruits and vegetables would be classified as heterogeneous (non-uniform) mixtures.

    So, grapefruit is not a pure substance, an element, or a compound.  Elements are found on the periodic table.  Compounds are comprised of two or more elements.  Grapefruit are comprised of many compounds in a non-uniform fashion.  They are homogeneous mixtures.
