  1. Alot of the time they can be a dissapointment. You get rid of a lot of stuff and make a few dollars, but still end up with lots left. No...they're not much fun. After your early morning rush, people start coming in dribs and drabs, and it can get really boring just sitting there waiting for people. Some people are really rude too and try to humiliate you into making it seem you are desperate for the money and try and bring your price right down.

  2. My partner says - "gargae sales can be very exciting because sometimes they can be a big surprise of discoveries and just as often a big disappointment - both for the seller and the buyer. In some ways when you go to a flea market, or you stop at a yard sale, it's like throwing dice at a c**p table and the person selling the merchandise may be lucky and get rid of everything at a good price or wind up with a lot of it left over. But I think they can be lots of fun and sometimes quite valuable for the seller and the buyer.

  3. They are never profitable, think how much you originally paid for all the junk you are selling! They are fun though and it is good to get a bit of money for things you no longer use. It can be boring if nobody turns up....obviously....

  4. Profitable never. Fun, yes because you are practically making yourself busy by cleaning up the house and selling all the rubbish.

Someone's rubbish is another person's treasure. Is that how it's phrase?

  5. i dont think its profitable but fun yes......and the best part is you get rid of useless items and junk....and that too earn some money for it

  6. They are more profitable than giving your stuff away or throwing it in the bin.

Make sure you have something to do while you are waiting during quiet times.

Keep in mind that things need to be cheap. It's to get rid of stuff you don't want. If it is too expensive you will still be stuck with it. When I go to garage sales, if the first thing I see is over priced, I just leave again.

Some people are very rude and come at dawn! I have even had people turn up the day before. To avoid this you can say in your ad (eg) "Garage Sale at Queen St. Signs out at 8am" Then, nobody knows where it is untill you put the 'Garage Sale' sign out the front of your house at a decent hour. On the other hand, don't start it at midday cos most ppl have finished by then.

For things like glasses and plates or old tools etc that people are unlikely to buy all of, put them in a box together (all glasses or all tools) and say $5 a box. Put something good on the top that will catch their eye.

    (A sneaky trick)

Put something that you don't want to sell very visable at the back and mark it real cheap. Eg a big colour TV for $20. Put a small "sold' sticker on it that they won't see till they get up close (maybe on the top of it). Then they are right in amongst your stuff.

One way to keep yourself busy during the midday lul, and make a few more $$$, is to sell snags in bread at lunch time. Ppl will keep looking at your stuff while they eat it. If doing this sell cans of drink too. Sell them cheap, not shop prices.

I have found Garage Sales profitable. They get a bargain and I get to get rid of all the junk I bought at other garage sales and then found I never really needed.
