all the comparison sites want your post code. this suggests to me that we pay different prices depending on your postcode, having trouble understanding how my bills are so high when my work colleagues are paying far less.

  2. I believe so. I like in OK and the price of gas is pretty low compared to the other states [knock on wood] but the electric company here does bite you big time I guess because it is so hot here I dunno. But my parents live in PA and their gas is HIGH but electric is sooo low..

  3. Yes, they are, i recently changed to cheaper suppliers for both gas and electric, and the electric company sent me (in amongst the usual bumpf)  their prices for all of the UK, and there is a definite difference in price depending on where you live!! I really dont understand why, and i think its wrong!!!

  4. The post code is to check that you can be supplied by the supplier you are asking for a quote from. Not all suppliers can supply to every area. Although all the piplelines for gas eg are owned by british gas basically the others use them as well. Your bills may be higher because

    a) you have higher consumption

    b) you have a different supplier

    c) youre on the wrong tariff

    d) there is a problem with your meter (very unlikely)

    e) you are not getting discounts for dual fuel or direct debit payments and so on.

  5. You are asked for post code because not all companies supply to the same areas.

There is certainly no difference between post codes within a company. If there was people would be up in arms over it. You can confirm this by looking at the tariff of each company. Only one charge per unit wherever you live.

You did ask a question earlier today about high usage. You should turn off everything electrical and then observe if the dials on your meter are moving, if they are then there is obviously something using power. Could you have telephone answer machine or burglar alarm or central heating or some appliance you take for granted that is using the electricity? Some things are power hungry e.g. tumble dryer.

  6. Yes, they are.

I recently swapped supplier whilst away, and was told my tariff would be different.
