My daughter is 7 and she goes to about 2 parties/month for classmates and family friends. My question is approx. how much to spend per gift?

-thinking about making personalized inexpensive trinket boxes and put a gift card in it for every party we go to. this way kids can gain a sense of gratification by choosing something they like yet they still get something personal.

  1. I hate when my kids get gift cards...get the child a gift and give their parent the receipt/gift receipt.

Let your child enjoy picking out a gift, and keep in mind kids aren't all that enthusiastic about a plastic card-and it just makes thank you notes harder. "Thanks for the gift card." when it could be "Thanks for the awesome stuffed elephant, I love it a ton and its really nice of you to get me another one for my elephant collection."

  2. no i personally don't like gift cards because you only can spend it at 1 place i would just get her/him a card with money in it i think you should spend about $15-$20 that seems good enough but your idea works to but put money in the trinket box not a gift card

  3. I think you should spend about fifteen dollars per present, perhaps twenty.

Personalized gifts are a great idea; perhaps you could buy a plain box and decorate it with paint and glitter, or draw a picture on the cover of a plain notebook. That would be fun, inexpensive, and thoughtful.

I think gift cards are also a good idea; they're slightly more thoughtful than cash, but they let the recipient choose their own gift, which is always fun.

  4. For kids the gift card I like best is for your local movie theater. Usually I get one to cover the cost of two tickets and a little extra for pocorn. ($15-20).

  5. I think that is a perfect idea and I just might steal it from you!  LOL  So many parties I've been to where the birthday child gets 2 or three of the same thing...last year, my son got 4 of the exact same Spiderman toy!  Gift cards are a wonderful gift for children because they can get what they want AND because what kid doesn't love to go shopping and pick something out for themselves.  The outing is the treat, too.  Thanks for the idea! I'd like to add that when the receiver writes out their thank you cards, it's very simple to write out the thank you card AFTER you've spent the gift card and say, "Thank you so much for the gift card.  I picked out a stuffed elephant to go w/ my elephant collection"   This is what I do when my kids or myself gets gift cards.  (Obviously I don't let much time pass before I use the gift card as to not let my thank you note arrive too late.)

  6. my kids are 7 and ten and are always going to parties. I tend to spend around £5/£6 a time but whenever I go shopping, I always buy bargains when I see them, woolies do power rangers/spidy/batman figures buy one get one free sometimes, great for the boys, often  same deal on girly stuff such as chad valley card making kits/paint your own money box kits etc for my daughters friends, woolies also do great sets of cups and coasters with cats or dogs. I also keep an eye on claires accessories as you can often buy 5 things for a fiver which you could put in a pretty bag, all wrapped in pink tissue, markets have great bargains on tissue and gift bags, even ebay
