  1. USA;

    Only Florida and Pennsylvania classify gifted as special ed.

    gifted and talented are basically ignored or token-educated-Parents of the gifted have many of the same frustrations as parents of Special ed. kids: discrimination, kids left to sit and do nothing, inappropriate expectations and virtually few teachers trained to include their child's needs.

  2. SEN is a totally different thing to gifted and talented. behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties will fall into the S.E.N cat. Gifted and Talented means you are CHOSEN by process of elimination, your not chosen to have special needs.

  3. No,  They are not considered special ed.  However, you do have some rights regarding how they are going to serve the child if in fact he is flagged as gifted.  Go to your state web sight for education and do some research.

  4. No, these children are not SEN , unless they do have other special needs. Well in UK anyway.

  5. NO they are not

  6. They are in West Virginia - have to have an IEP like "disabled" children (LD, BD, etc.)

  7. Only if they have an associated LD or special need

  8. In the US  gifted is technically special education.  If you want gifted services then request a multi-factored evaluation and push for an IEP.  If you get an IEP then the district MUST provide gifted services.

  9. They are not,  BUT  gifted and talented students can be classified in BOTH groups. Some kids that are gifted ALSO have learning problems and CAN have special ed if they qualify.
