Are girlfriends pointless at my age?

I'm 17, do you think having a girlfriend is pointless at my age since it will never last? I even hear of people wanting a girlfriend/boyfriend just for experience, which basically means they plan on breaking up.

I have 3 brothers and at your age they were thinking towards their futures and didn't have girlfriends though they all had lots of friends of both sexes. All of them only had 1 girlfriend and all ended up marrying their 2nd girlfriends. The oldest was 28 when he got married the others were younger.

All had goals and I think they didn't want the distractions of a girlfriend during their years of school. 2 are Univ. professors and one owns his own business.

If you've got goals concentrate your efforts there it will get you further in the long run.

No it is not pointless to have a girl friend at 17 there are many people that get married to there high school sweetheart's and go on to raise a beautiful family, but if you go into a relationship  expecting it to fail it probably will. Just be sure that you know what you want ask your self are you ready for a relationship, and if so make sure the one you choose wants the same thing.

well ... i guess you never know how long your going to be w/ someone. but if you meet a girl thats compatible to you and u have true feelings that can last for ever. it depends.

It's pointless if you are looking to find your true love. Maybe you will, that is why you must date to test them to see if they are right for you. By dating you also learn what you like in a girl such as personality or features. I think dating also helps prepare you for future sexual situations. In other words, you'll be able to 'perform' better and get chicks in bed faster.

So no, it isn't pointless.

How do you know it won't last .   The girlfriend I had when I was 17 became my first wife .  We had a love relationship for13 yrs.   We are still friends!

I've had some girls who were friends since I started socializing as a kid. You could just hang out and enjoy the same activities w/o worrying about the stress and rules of a relationship. It's awesome if you can do that but generally s*x complicates things.

I think that you never know how long you are going to be with someone no matter what age you are. However, from every relationship comes a lot of important things. You learn how to talk to and really listen to the opposite s*x. You start to gain understanding into what makes them happy, sad, angry,etc. You get experience dealing with their families and having your family deal with your significant other. There are thousands of things that come from a relationship even if you don't end up happily ever after.

to be honest it is kinda pointless, i mean if you know its not going to last than why bother. the only thig it would be is a distraction and a waste of money. and even though it might seem like "forever" sometimes, its usually not, its just an illusion you create of something you wish you had, but dont, so your mund makes it seem like you already have it. but bottom line is that it is indeed pointless

Unless you plan to remain celibate and chaste for the remainder of your natural life, no it is not pointless at your age.  Naturally, there are more important things like schoolwork and your health, but this will help develop a healthy and well-rounded personality,.  Any straight man would benefit by having healthy relationships with well-intentioned females.

I don't think it is pointless if you find someone that you really enjoy being with. There are so many couples that started out as HS sweethearts and stay together for years.

Now if you don't have anyone that you are interested in, then just enjoy your life.
