  1. Yes it illegal to ride on sidewalk and illegal to ride on the road also.

  2. Go Karts, Dirt Bikes, Riding Lawnmowers, Jet Powered shopping carts, Whatever. All are motor vehicles. They are vehicles and have motors. All need to be registered and you do need a license to operate them on the public roads in every state and Puerto Rico. Oh yea, Guam.

  3. Yes in most states, operating them on the roadway is illegal. You need to be in the ditch or off-road. You can even get a ticket for crossing a road!

  4. In most locations,   they are illegal in both locations.    Off-road,   off sidewalk only.

  5. Here is your New Jersey law regarding go karts..........

A go-cart is not "street legal" to run any motorized vehicle on the street it must at minimum have turn signals, mirrors, break lights, registration, head lights, tail lights and be insured and you need to be licensed.

The fine for using a go-cart on public roads, sidewalks and so forth is a minimum of $250.00 and not more than $500.00.
