Teddy bear hamsters are more cuddly and soft, and friendly, golden hamster tend to bite, and aren't as soft and cudly.

Both golden hamsters and teddy bear hamsters are fancy names used in pet shops for Syrian Hamsters. The only difference between the two is the fur colour and length. The golden hamster has golden fur and teddy bear hamsters comes in different fur colors but stand out due to their long fur, hence the name teddy bears.

Syrian hamsters are the most easy to handle and tame among all hamsters. They are playful and nice and biting depends on how well you tame them. If you are gentle and patient with them and they trust you, then you are their friends for life and they would hardly bite you until they are agitated for some reason. Also syrian hamsters once tamed, would be tamed for life, unlike dwarfs which have to be handled once a week otherwise they become untame again.

all hamsters can bite if scared or threatend you could go to a petstore and ask a worker what breed has bitten them more if at all and then you can make your choice :) they are really fun good luck :)

Yes. They are all the same. Their 'true' name is the Syrian Hamster and all domestic syrians originate from one female and her litter that were caught in the wild in the early 1900's.

They are generally friendlier and easier to handle than the dwarf varieties of hamster. While they aren't particularly playful, they are great pets and make great first pets.

They aren't very inclined to bite unless scared or hurt. They also have bad eyesight, so if you smell like food, they may mistake you for a snack.

Over many years working in a pet store, having my own hamsters and then my children having hamsters I have found that male hamsters are generally more friendly than female hamsters. They don't go through heat cycles so they don't get cranky like that and they don't have that need to be bred.

Then, each hamster has it's own personality. It also depends on where you get your hamster and how it has been treated. You are much better off getting a hamster from someone who has a pet hamster who has had a litter and handled the babies from little on up than you are getting them from a pet store where you are unsure how they have been treated. You have no idea if they have ever been handled or even how old they are. Most hamsters live about 2-3 years. The hamster you get at the pet store may already be 6mo-1 year old.

Hamsters are not likely to play with you. They are more fun to watch. You have to remember that they are nocturnal and will be up while you are sleeping. A small mammal like a gerbil or a mouse would be more likely to play and will be up during the hours that you are up. My children have both a hamster and a mouse right now. Don't be afraid to get a mouse as a pet. They are great fun to watch, love to just sit and watch TV with you, don't bite and you can have more than one to a cage. Gerbils are the same way...just remember to get all girls or all boys or you will have little mice or gerbils!!
