Are golf carts legal in nyc for street use?

I know certain parts of long island residents can use them around their towns but i'd like to use one of them in my borough for errands.

Golf carts are not for street use. There are kids around my area who think because it's outside city limits they can drive whatever kinds of vehicles they want around the streets and trails. They're wrong, they're not allowed to do so, but they do anyway... and it's very troubling to those of us who are concerned about safety.

Check with your department of motor vehicles.  

In many areas, vehicles used on streets must be licensed and registered, pass safety inspections and often carry insurance.  Such rules may be modified by certain municipalities or communities, but unless your borough specifically makes this allowance (and you would know if they do), odds are good golf carts are a no-go.
