Are graduation parties kinda like baby showers?

I was at a baby shower today and I had a thought. Do they do something similar for people who graduate from college? Like have a party where they buy you gifts that are career oriented?

Generally, for a graduation gift you give cash, or possibly a gift card.  Graduation is a transition, and since the grad rarely knows just where they are going, you give them the gift that always fits.

Not really... I'm sure some people do, but unless the graduate actually has a career-related job lined up right out of college, it'd be awfully hard to buy "career-oriented" gifts (and with the job market the way it is right now, a lot of grads aren't starting out in their career of choice right out of college).

It took me more than a year after college to find a permanent position in the field I graduated in, and the job market was slightly better at that time.

Maybe a little similar but not much. graduation parties are more fun to me. But baby showers are fun too. hope i helped a little :)
