  1. Graphite is pretty standard these days.

  2. I use graphite on all my woods. If you notice all long drivers on tv use graphite shafts. Graphite shafts have more technology and you can find an extra stiff low kick shaft for woods. However, I feel graphite shafts for irons are for high handicappers. A good steel shaft will give a lower handicapper more feel and weight which allows the golfer to hit solid shots. But even Tiger Woods uses graphite for his driver!

  3. Graphite shafts generally dampen the vibrations ond give more distance while steel tends to give more control.  These are generalizations but tend to be the norm.  Graphite on the clubs you hit for distance (driver, 3 wood, wood) makes sense for those clubs as does the steel for your control clubs.  Recent graphite shafts are closing this gap however.  If you are in doubt see a clubfitter and go with what you hit best and or are most comfortable with.

  4. Definitely not, some golfers use steel shafted clubs cos its cheaper, some think they are better than graphite while others thought its a macho thing. Graphites are actually more technologically advanced and have a variety of flexes to suit different level of golfers.

  5. No.  If you look at professionals, they use graphite mostly in their woods.  A 9 handicap should definitely use graphite for your woods and steel for your irons.  I'm a 15 handicap and that's what I do.

  6. If you are a 9 or 10 handicap player, than you are a good player, it all comes to you how they feel for you but most drivers or woods are in graphite theses days and they are exceptional quality. As far as the irons yes you can get graphite shafts on the irons, best is to go to your local pro, or pro shop and try to see which suits you best. I am on a20 handicap and I love my graphite shaft drivers and woods.

  7. It is all dependent on the swing speed. I had graphite shafts when my swing was slower, and steel shafts now that my swing has sped up. It's all about swing speed when it comes to shafts, and not really how good you are.

  8. it is mainly a feel thing. What graphite shafts on irons are really meant for is people with slower club speeds. with graphite shafts you are able to get the correct shaft flex for you speed. I know the graphite market is usually good with woman, older people and just very slow hitters. Steel shaft are for power hitters. So are they meant for higher handicap people the answer is no you can be a very low handicap person with a lower club speed it really all depends on how you swing I know I must have a steel shaft because I swing very hard were my father in his late 50's must have graphite shaft because he has a slower swing. good luck
