  1. If there is no male in the tank then it's not pregnant - unless you only purchased it very recently? But energetic....guppies always are. They swim all over the tank and never stop. Your guppy is fine.

  2. alright here we go,

depends on where you buy the fish, and if it was from a pet store, it depends on the breeders of the guppies.

see if a guppie breeder is careless they will just throw males and females into a 55 gal or more tank and they will let them breed in there and just sell them to a neer by pet store weather they are pregnant or not.   they dont really care.

and if the pet store is care less (like petco ugh not even getting to that one) they will throw them into a tank.   even if the breeders seperated them and made sure none of the females was pregnant.

now females have a special reproductive system that allows for them to hold onto sperm.   they can keep it in them and use it when ever they need to.   so that's why it's very important that you know where they are comming from.   so even if you have only females in your tank she could very well be pregnant.

a good way you can see if she is pregnant is to watch her givid spot.  this is a black spot above her anal fin.   (the fanned out fin under neeth her before the farthest back fin)  now watch that spot.   you will notice that it will begin to grow.   now what your watching when it's growing it she growth of the baby fishes eyes.   pretty sweet huh.

this is what a pregnant guppy looks like:

see the one with the circle.

now even after that pregnant fish (above) will have her babys she doesnt need the male to become pregnant again.   she has special sacks that will hold and store the sperm and use them when needed and when the time is correct.    she can use the stored up sperm for up to 4 times.   thats along time for her to store them huh?

if you could get a pic of what your females look like i could tell you if they look pregnant or not.   i have been breeding live barror fish (mainly guppies) since i was 14 years old.   im 18 now.   so i have some experience with this.

so if you have any Q's about what i have talked about or anything of that sort go ahead and email me.  i dont mind i would be happy to answer any questions you have

    ADD ON!!

i forgot to answer your question about if guppies are entergetic or not.   every fish that is entergetic is a good fish to have boughten.  see any fish that is in good health should be fast and should have a healthy apitite.

so her being entergetic is a very good thing.

also i would only feed your fish 2ce a day.  once at night and once in the morning.   no more then that,   and stand by your fish tank and add some food little by little until 2 min is up.   that's all you need to feed them.   of course i always add some shrimp pellets and when ever they are hungry they cam much on them threw out the day.   remember any unused food needs to be tooken out after 24 hours.

  3. sometimes fish swim up and down the sides of the tanks if they nedd more decorations. try adding some plants, rocks, etc.

  4. shes just excited my 2 female guppies i just got seriously an hour ago are doing the same thing but theres a male in the tank (i bought a trio) theres probably no problem. if you want to know if shes pregnant her gravid spot will be very dark and she will be very big. the gravid spot is down by her anal fin where her body stops and her tail begins. even though theres no males in the tank she could have gotten pregnant by a male at the store you got her at, and they can give birth 4 or 5 times after a single mating! i hope you want babies if these signs are correct. guppy breeding is very fun and you get lots of fish fast! and the fry are so cute. good luck with your guppy

  5. Guppies are fairly active fish.  Even though she's not with a male now, if she was mature and in a tank with males before you bought her, she's more than likely she's pregnant.  It'll be pretty obvious by a distend tummy.  Female guppies, as well as mollies, platies, and other livebearers, can have several broods after one encounter with a male.  They will deliver about every 28 days, number of fry depending on the females size.  Average probably around 30.

  6. I have no idea if Fishes get prego without a male

but try cleaning out the tank. or give it a little more food.

  7. Yes, guppies are really energetic.  I have one male that I simply cannot take a picture of because he won't stay still long enough.  It's kind of frustrating, but also kind of cute.  A lot of people love guppies because of their energy and beauty.

As to your feeding schedule, just stick with your normal feedings.  Don't feed her extra just because she's swimming around doing her high-energy thing.  That's just her temperament.

And to answer your question of "could she be pregnant", the answer is "maybe."  Has she ever been in the same aquarium with any males?  If she has, then she was most likely impregnated.  But it only takes thirty days for females to gestate and give birth, so if you've had her for longer than that and she hasn't given birth yet, then she's not pregnant.

I like guppies, but sometimes watching them with all their energy makes me feel old.

Edit:  Do you have a bubbler or airator or a current of some kind in your aquarium?  If you don't, she could be swimming at the top becuase she's suffocating and needs more oxygen.  The water on the surface has more oxygen, so suffocating fish swim at the top and gulp.  If you already have an airator, then there's no need to worry.
