I'm going to be loking fora horse in the future and i've been thinking about a gypsy vanner. I've had 5 years expearience on anarabian gelding so i know how to ride pritty well. My problem is i'm leagally blind so i need a horse that won't spook at things that i can't see. So what i'm wondering is, do gypsy's do good on trails and on the beach and such without spooking or are they flighty?

  1. from what i've heard, gypsy vanners are pretty sound horses. most of the time it's just what individual horse you want, not the breed. i've been riding for almost 6 years though, my friends and i have fun looking up this stuff, so i know a little about it. in my opinion, a gypsy vanner would be a step down from an arabian(i know what they're like), so i'd go for it!! good luck

  2. an older experienced vanner would be perfect for you, enjoy.

  3. i wouldnt say that it is the breed....but the individual horse.....your going to want to look at the training the individual horse instead of its whole breed.

and no offensive but how are you going to read my answer if your blind?

  4. Every horse has the potential to be flighty and spook at things, so to a certain extent it is down to the individual horse.  Of course some breeds are more reliable that others, usually native sorts, so you can limit the potential for problems.

Talk to your local riding for the disabled organisation, they may be able to help you find a suitable horse.

When I was at college (studying horses) we had a blind girl in the year below me - she would get on any horse to ride and was a fantastic rider (better than me!).  A lot of it is down to the confidence that you comunicate to the horse when ridden.
