Are hamster nocturnal or something?

why does my hamster sleep all day but then at night shes running on her wheel like a mad dog???

Yes, hamsters (and most rodents) are nocturnal. If you want to handle them during the day, gently pick her up (if she's sleeping be careful not to scare her). Most hamsters will wake up and be just as active any hour of the day. Consistently handling her during daytime hours may get her used to a different schedule.

You kind of answered your own question- hamsters are more or less nocturnal, though it's not unusual for them to get up in the day occasionally to get a drink or just to explore, but they're most lively and most likely to be up at night.

ya there nocturnal i used to have one it annoyed the heck out of me at night i acualy have to remove the wheel it was so loud

Other answers are wrong. Hamsters are NOT nocturnal.

How old is your hamster? If it is still a one year old hamster, then it will really sleep at the day, and wake up at the night. But if it becomes older, then it not like that anymore
