Do you think that those thick hard copy phone books that get delivered to your home an ancient thing, not very applicable or useful in today's world? What with cell phones and on-line internet directories, it just seems so old fashioned. I still use them from time to time, but I bet most folks don't even use them that much, and certainly less than I do. And that doesn't even take into consideration the rising percentage of folks getting rid of their land lines.

Are hard copy phone books a dying breed?

  1. they night seem like a dying breed to the home owner  but hotels buy more phone books then anyone to supply all of their rooms. until hotels no long use them the hard copy with will still be a thing of the present

  2. phone are a thing of the past they need to stop killing trees to make them i have a book that has never been opened. everything I need is on the internet and easier to find.

  3. I still use the phonebook quite alot. Most non-commercial businesses don't have websites on the internet so yeah, there's still a use in phonebooks.

Your right, more people are getting rid of land lines. Like the percentage of people with land lines decreased from like 87% to 84%. Not alot but a big change.

Also, phone books are considered to be on the "extinction list" by Yahoo's consumer electronic site. A couple of months ago, I read an article that said how phone books and land lines were becoming extinct and hard to come across.

But to answer your question, yeah of course, hardcopy phone books are slowly becoming no longer applicable in today's world.

  4. Believe it or not, there are some people who do not have cell phones or internet.  There are also times where, maybe, someone cannot access the on line directories.  Plus, it's sometimes handier to have the information directly in front of you.

For instance, let's say you're away from home and want to find a local chinese restaurant.  If you open the yellow pages at your hotel, you can see all the restaurants near where you're staying.  :)
