Are headaches normal during a colon cleanse or total body detox?

I'm currently using Symmetry Botanacleanse. I'm on day two of the 11 day program, and for the last 2 days, I've had a mild, but ongoing headache. I haven't taken any pain killers, as I'm afraid it may cause the Botanacleanse to become ineffective...thanks in advance for your help!!!

  1. Have you increased your water intake along with your cleanse?  When doing any colon cleanse or body detox it is generally recommended that you drink more water to help flush the toxins out.  If you have not increased your water intake, your headaches may be caused by dehydration.

  2. I agree--start with drinking more water.  There are some side effects to doing cleanses, depending on the protocol.  If it's mild, let it go for another day or so, then cut back on the cleanse if you continue to have the headache.  You can pick it up later.  I detox frequently as I have fibromyalgia and it helps relieve pain, so at times at have to interrupt a protocol because of issues like yours.  Doesn't reduce the effectiveness of what you are using.

  3. I think this is your body's way of telling you to stop taking this junk. I mean, if you were taking some conventional medicine and came on here and asked the same question, everybody would be telling you about how it was proof that it was bad for you. But incredibly in this case it is proof that it is working!

  4. Yes, headaches can be normal.

I would still suggest taking the cleanse, increasing your water intake, and increase your fibre intake!  So important!  With any cleanse, the only way most of the toxins are being released is through the colon.  Fibre pretty much grabs onto the toxins and helps them get out of your body.

With headaches, sometimes your body can have detoxing effects (almost like detoxing from drugs or alcohol).  It's the effect your body has when it's ridding itself of toxins.  Some people will have headaches, nausea, sore muscles, etc for the first few days of a cleanse.  I'm guessing it'll go away in a couple of days.

If the headaches are unbearable, and you need to take something to help the pain, take feverfew.  It's a natural herb that helps with migraines and pain.  That way, you aren't putting drugs back into your body while doing the cleanse!  If it's absolutely necessary to take painkillers, then do it 2-3 hours before or after you take your cleansing herbs.  That way the herbs won't make it ineffective.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Go back to the Health Store & ask the owner about this product. They should be helpful.

If not, you can check with either an LMT (Massage Therapist) who does Colonics or a Chiropractor who does it.
