Are hermit crabs weird pets?

im thinking about getting a hermit crab and just wondering if they are cool. Please tell me what i need, what type of cage to get. person with most will be best answerer

You will need a 20 gallon aquarium, some sand, a sponge filled with water a commercially available reptile diet. Also put some rocks to hide. Make sure you have shells to put them in, and make sure they're not custom painted.

This is a weird question - but owning a hermit crab is not weird!  My 5 year old grandson has a pet hermit crab and loves it!  He keeps him in a little cage with a sponge (always keep it wet for the crabs thirst) and special food that we bought along with the other stuff  on the A.C. Boardwalk.  The crab loves him too.  It crawls all over him, sleeps with him and recognizes him when he comes into a room!  How I know this is because he does not bite or try to get away...  and he comes right out of his shell when my grandson comes home from school, play, etc.  It's as if he gets excited to greet him!  It's cool...  if you can not have a normal pet.  Hope this helps.  I have a dog and a cat and think life is dull without them.  Everyone has to go with their own ideals. they are much more active if there are at least 2 hermit crabs

you should get a glass tank to keep humidity and moisture in, sand, a bowl that they can climb into filled with water, some thing for them to climb on to sleep, food, food bowl, water and water bowl and a sponge so they can drink.

I personally love them but a lot of people look at me like I am strange because I have them as pets.  Yes, they are a bit odd but they don't go to the bathroom on you and after the initial set up they are easy to care for!  They do get boring if they are not active though and during molts which can last weeks - months depending on their size (they bury themselves)

You will need AT least a ten gallon aquarium, a dish for fresh water and a dish for salt water, they need fresh fruit and veggies, plus you can feed them cereal like chex or cheerios..  they also need cuttlebone and honey for when they molt.  The substrate should be sand (you can use play sand) and or eco earth (which is blocks of coconut fiber) and if the crab is an inch the substrate needs to be 2-3" deep so they can bury. They need heat and humidity of at least 70-80 percent at all times.  They are not lone animals so you do need at least 2.  Those are the basics, you can find more info. and such at the webpages listed below.
