Absolutely.  Rather good.

They need to be ripe -- the outer shell will be dark brown, almost black -- not green.

They also need to be dry.  The outer shell will come off in 4 pieces very easily when they are dry enough.

What type of hickory tree is it..some types are very good others not so good or not edible.Non edible are butternut..nutmeg..water...sand and black...the pignut is can be bitter.
