If you think about it, its a great way to ration consumption. Now people are using fuel for what it should be used for- necessities ie going to work, the dr etc. No more silly recreational waste ie boats, planes, vactions. AND not so many semis on the highway!!! I have said for years it wouldnt always be there.....now its happening

  1. umm...i sorta have to disagree.

my step dad is a truck driver and he is still driving all over the country! bc that is his job and that is how he earns his money. hes been doing it for so many years now.

also, i am leaving out of town this weekend, going two hours away, yes thats not bad, but its not going to keep me from driving! also I am leaving for new york in a couple of weeks! New York...and I live in South Ga. Also! after I come back to Ga, I am then leaving to go to Ohio! and there are still alot of tourists here visiting the beaches coming from up north. even canada! go figure! but some people just view it as it being worth the price of gas.

i believe people are still going to go boating, the celebrities still are going to drive their planes, people are still going to vacation. Its just what humans do.

  2. this high price time is going to propell us into a new age the battery power car... and gas will go down faster then it went up. and then all the people will be back ..but the vactions and other boating flying helps other people make a living also ok.

  3. yes and no....in America people are not cutting back yet...its hurting ...but in the long run we wjll go smaller cars and hopefully will get some work on alt and more drilling.trouble is today the world uses 90 million bbl a day...in 10 years the Chinese will use abt 90 million bbls a day...hmmm.don't sound to good

  4. Yes it is really that bad.  Some people are choosing gas over food.  But you are right about finally people watching their fuel (gas) usage.

But recreation is not silly.  Human being need them.  But using gas to do them all was always a bad idea.

    Good Luck...

  5. It would be better if the railroads were not totally full.

You may not know this but the American railroad system is totally max'ed out.  They can't keep their own trains on time, let alone Amtrak, because there are too many trains trying to use too few tracks.  They're no longer abandoning track and now are adding new track.

So the railroads want to take more semi's off the road, but they can only do so much.

  6. I agree with you, Bearcat.  Market cost always controls consumption if costs get high enough--and gas has always been a consumer luxury, not an American's 'right to have.'

For decades the US government has been subsidizing the cost of fuel for Americans by subsidizing the oil companies directly--their oil exploration and drilling costs, etc.  But has this way of doing things served Americans well?  NO,  because WE as American taxpayers had to pay the cost of all those oil company subsidies through our taxes.

....so cheap gasoline has only hurt Americans in the long run by allowing us to get addicted to it, and it hasn't saved us money in our pockets in the long run either.

  7. You do have a point......as far as pollution goes it may be helpful but the higher the gas gets the higher every thing gets, Food ,clothes and every thing!

  8. em you're actually quite wrong about that. people's driving habits have remained the same. it was even talked about on the news. people will keep driving until they can't afford tv anymore. forget food and shelter.

  9. Yes they are and especially diesel prices!!!  We are getting gouged harder on diesel than gasoline.  Diesel MOVES just about everything you consume. ALL prices of goods and food WILL RISE.  IF that is what you want, just be ready to shell out your pocketbook on everything you buy. You might even experience shortages if things really get bad. Since you stay home, you might want to stock up on a few things while you can get them cheap.  I personally do not take a lot of vacations or own a boat, but I do not wish misery on those who like to do those things. Children like to go places, and not everyone has Disney World in their back yard.  I also believe in fuel efficient cars (since I own one), but I do not believe in destroying the economy with high fuel prices to deter behaivor.

  10. well,  gas and oil are part of the need of production,  transportation and even leisure.

as long as we have power at our homes,  we have to admit part of it is gas and oil

even if we use public transport to save on gas and lessen traffic,  the vehicle we use is still requires gas and oil.

as long as we have machines oil is one of the basic requirements.  even rides for parks need oil for maintenance

and even if we use electric or non motorized vehicles,  the power for the electric vehicles can still come from something powered by electricity (with exception to solar power).  and even parts of the bicycle,  the machines used to make the parts,  and the oil / grease to maintain it still is gas or oil based.

so if we dont consume oil wisely  (even in its raw form)  its price will increase thus increasing the cost of what is mentioned above.

  11. Recreational use isn't silly.  It is relaxing.  I agree to a point that some people feel it just isn't worth it to take the boat out, but my boss flys to work everyday because otherwise with traffic, it would take him 2 hours of sitting in the car.  Now it takes him 15 mins to take off, fly, and land everyday.  And high gas prices are terrible.  There are some people who have to drive a distance to get to work, but they can't afford the gas.  That is a catch 22.

  12. um hek yea its bad. i gotta go to work and i live in g.a. and its suks economy wise. pple are spendin half their pay checks to fill their tanks when they need to spend it on personal needs like bills.
