More specifically, I'd like to know whether one will be asked for an official home address in one's home country (EU) when moving to the UK and entering into a tenancy agreement.

  1. yes you'll need it so that they can check you out with a credit reference agency.

  2. No, they won't.  A UK resident will be asked for their previous addresses in order to check their credit history.  This does not apply to non-UK residents, as it's not possible to carry credit ratings between different countries, so basically no-one cares where you've lived before.

However, you may find it somewhat difficult to rent a flat with no previous history in the UK.  You should easily find one room in a house share.  If you need a whole flat though, you will probably need to get your employer to write a letter for you and you may need to pay a larger than standard deposit.

  3. They will ask for previous addresses so they can ask for reference and check credit reports etc. I'm not sure how that will apply concidering the address isn't UK based but they will ask for your last address all the same.
