Are homemade smoothies healthier for you?

I try to stay in shape and exercise everyday. My grandma suggested making smoothies since she said fruit is good for me. I go to the fitness center everyday for an hour then I come home and have a smoothie for my late breakfast. My grandma and me go shopping for fruit alot so whenever the time is right I make a fresh fruit smoothie. I put a couple of strawberries in and a handful of blueberries because I'm a blueberry muncher and I add a splash of milk and a scoop of Wild Strawberry Shurbert. Is this a alright recipe for me to have or should I choose a different recipe??

  3. yes. any food you make at home is really healthy for you because you know what you put in it. i think it is not always  good to eat at resteraunts because some employees don't wash thier hand while they prepare food.  your on the right path, and i hope this info. helps. :-)

  4. yea sure. you know what the ingredients are in your drink. the drink sound good.

  5. That smoothie sounds delicious and nutritious (sorry that's cheesy).  But in my opinion, a homemade smoothie would be better than buying a smoothie because you know exactly what is going into your drink and controlling portions and ingredients and stuff like that. Hope this helps!

  6. Ohh!! I like the sound of your recipe!! it is just what I like in smoothies.

that sounds great for after workout body filler!!

  7. Yours sounds healthy

    Nothing I make is healthy!!

  8. Yep. They are better because you can control the portion size and the amount of sugar in them. Adding the sherbet adds more calories. Try soy milk instead of the juice and see how you like it. (Fruit juice = sugar; sherget =  sugar = calories/fat).

  9. I think adding yogurt instead of sherbet would be healthier.

  10. yes they are healthier because you get to control what you want to put in it

  11. I think the whole reason for smoothies (besides the fact that they taste so good) is to have something healthy that tastes good.  I stick with fruit and yogurt, maybe milk, honey, flavorigs, etc.  I think if you start adding ice cream, frozen yogurt or sherbet, you're getting away from the whole reason for having a smoothie.  Then it's a shake with all the fat and calories.

  12. The following is a very good, healthy, homemade smoothie recipe:

    Tropical Green Tea Smoothie

2 oranges, peeled and separated into quarters

    2 bananas, peeled

    2 cups seedless grapes

    1 cup prepared green tea

    1 tsp. honey

    12 ice cubes

    1. Combine oranges, bananas, and grapes in a blender or food processor.

    2. Blend on high until smooth.

    3. Add green tea, honey and ice.

    4. Blend on medium/high until ice is crushed.

    5. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
