  4. Well, a few decades ago, a TV programme called Opportunity Knocks had a clapometer, which registered audience reaction to the amateur competitors, so I guess that was measuring in hands!

  6. Today, it is just used for measuring equines.  However, it has been used as a more common standard of measurement throughout history used by Egyptians, Romans, and many more.  Henry the VIII is the one who standardized it to 4 inches.
