Are hot water showers harmful to environment compared to a bucket of hot water?

The amount of water wasted in a shower is much higher than bathing using a bucket of water. Add to the energy required to heat that much water. I would think hot water showers are very harmful to environment. Bath with a bucket of hot water is much less wasteful.

  1. Yes, but much more inconvenient.

  2. I agree, bathing with a bucket of hot water would be less wasteful.

That being said, there is a  way to use hot water without the use of buckets and without wasting energy.  If you live in an area that gets a reasonable amount of sunshine, you can use plastic barrels to heat water by the sun.  Many people do to keep their greenhouses warm during the winter months, and it can be modified for use as household hot water to supplement the hot water from your tank.

There's so many DIY sites dedicated to going green that you can probably find out how to do it on the internet.

  3. The hot water temperature can vary depending on how much water is used. If you get up early in the morning and have a shower, it takes longer for the hot water to reach the shower head than it does in the evening, when many people in the building are washing up, showering or having a bath.

The hot water should normally be about 55°C and should not exceed 65°C.

  4. If you want people to take GW seriously, don't tell them that one way to "save the earth" is to disconnect their shower and wash out of a bucket. These ideas cause people to believe you really know little of what you are talking about. Soon there will come the backlash and even good things will be rejected.
