Harold, am I to assume you are from the "eolian descent" camp then? I bet there is a bitter rivalry with the alluvial supporters. Why can't we all just be colluvialists?

  1. Most of the dissenting answers you get are going to be nonsensical because they reject the basic science and classifications it uses as invalid.  It's hard to hold a logical debate on scientific evidence and classifications when the other side doesn't have a good understanding of your side and rejects it as falsehood.

Edit: The link in my sources will help those who are a bit confused.

  2. Humans should be in the "sedimentary rocks" classification... according to the Bible...

    ****

Hey don't LOOK AT ME... we did come from DUST!!!!!!

  3. If we come from dust, then isn't that mostly made from sluffed off cells from other animals.

  4. Hmm. I could make the argument we're not chordates given we only display certain characteristics of chordates (like the notochord and tail) as embryos/fetuses, and not as mature or even infantile lifeforms. But this is a classification argument better suited for the biology community--I think in thirty years we'll have newer, more accurate classifications based on genetic relation. Cladism is already bringing us some of this.

The problem is that religious people have a disconnect between human beings and animals. It doesn't matter that you tell them an animal is simply a multicellular heterotroph with no cell walls--they have an emotional hangup on the word 'animal' and they stop listening after that word. So, despite being furry vertebrates with mammary glands, they'll either stop listening when they realize you're leading up to calling them animals or monkeys, or not have an issue with it because there's no stigma around the word.

  5. huh

  6. I don't quite get where you're coming from.

  7. I actually remember reading an answer about a week ago that stated, "I may be a mammal at most, but I'm not an animal."

When I read answers like that I am sometimes glad that these people found a religion where only faith is required for your salvation, because if it required much more they's be SOL.

    You can't fix stupid.

  8. What's funny is I agree we are "mammals" and could be classified in the animal kingdom.  But we just happen to be "something special".

Scientifically speaking, of course, yes, I believe we are classified as mammals, within that one family.

Oh and guess what.  I held this belief even as a Christian.

But how is that possible?  I agreed, with SCIENCE!

Seems people need to rework their logic concerning Christians.  We can be very logical at times, with great reasoning powers.  It's a stereotype to label all Christians as "illogical" and "ignorant/stupid" like I see some people do here on Answers.
