Are humans really the master of their environment?

Do you think it would be possible for humans to reduce mt everests peak (or any other serious land mass) to sea level? what would be the chosen method? how long would it take? (drunk debate needs resolving!)

  1. it may be possible but it would take centuries if not milenniums to do so. for the method, i have no clue, maybe something of tesla's work. otherwise, loads of DYNOmite.


  2. Generally to be a master of something usually denotes a dgree of control, not just blindly stumbling around causing all sorts of havoc with unknown  consequences. Of course we could level mount Everest, we levelled Nagasaki didn't we. How long would it take? Ask the Japanese.

  3. To some extent we are masters of our environment, but we are also custodians of it.

    Could we reduce Mt Everest to sea level.  Sure, but why would we?  

    OK, if we were to erode a mountain down to sea level, with all the nukes we've got in the world, we could do this quicker than nature could.
