Are humans supposed to be monogamous?

I've been wondering about that particular one, honestly, ever since I noticed some books in the public library proposing that monogamy is nothing more than a social construct. I really can't decide how I feel about it. I know that it's what I need. I don't think I could say if I was born needing it, or if what society has shown me has conditioned me to believe that it's the only way I could be happy. So many similar questions are difficult to answer. There are innumerable things that I wonder if I just accept as truths because I have seen them acted out and affirmed by other people time and time again.

Biologically men are programmed to want to sleep with as many women as possible.Women are the opposite.  Obviously this doesn't hold true to every single person, but in general it's true.

Think of it this way: the human species only needs one man to keep going on because one man can have children with many women.  Men want to have s*x with multiple women so they can reproduce more and further the species.

i dont know that it has anything to do with being 'human' but i believe people should be honest and when they are with someone and commit to them it should be that way forever. otherwise dont commit.

I actually don't think we are, even though I am in a monogamous relationship. I think its harder for men to be monogamous but its also a problem for women. You have to really work to stay monogamous.

Well, females mostly are but I don't know about the basic instincts of men!
