Well humans do display virus characteristics..but cancer is a disease and not a virus so i would have to say no, humans are not the cancer of this planet

The planet has the capacity to get rid of species that exhaust their resources.

Perhaps 'cancer' is the wrong analogy. We won't actually kill the planet, only ourselves and some other species. The planet will survive and establish a new equilibrium without us. Nature will always win while the virus of humanity will pass away. That's not a criticism of us - just the way we are, incapable of living in harmony with nature because of our unique characteristics.
