Q. Are ice ages in the northern hemisphere more likely when the sun is closest to the earth during summer or during winter? Explain.

Ice ages span very long periods of time and have little to do with the tilt of the Earth, and affect both hemispheres more or less equally.  Currently, summers and winters are more harsh in the Southern Hemisphere, but for both hemispheres the temperature variations average out in the course of a year.
