  1. i dont keep iguanas but i know some people who do and they quite often liken keeping an iguana to haveing a 6 foot long baby that bites in the house.

    so yeah pretty high

  2. I belive this site may help you a bit. http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/iguanas/a...

  3. yes and no. start with an easy kind of lizzard.

my older brother uswto have one and he would dpend FOREVER cutting up the food, and making it happy. but if u are able to care for one id say go for it =]

    good luck <3

  4. YES! iguanas need uva and uvb light rays. they need heat, a large tank and plenty of attention. they also need to have their nails trimmed. Iguanas are cheap but dont be fooled. They grow up to 7 feet and are not cheap to maintain. one good thing though is that they eat formulated food instead of insects.

  5. To a degree yes, it's what you believe is "high maintenance". They aren't like a cat or dog.

You do need to provide them w/ fresh greens daily, a few times a day, since iguanas are herbivores, they DO NOT eat crickets or any other type of bug. Give a bath daily/every other day. Interaction daily and still only have a 50/50 chance he/she will tolerate you as it's slave. 55 gallon tank to start, then a 6-7ft tall x 8-10ft long x 4ft wide enclosure to live in. Humidity. UVB. Heat. X-Rays if you have a female during breeding season. Surgery possible. Health issues to watch for.

I know I'm missing other things, but thats pretty helpful.

  6. yes if your a first timmer for reptile i would not get a iguana.

    get a gecko

  7. Depends on what you believe is high maintence.

They do need a heating pad/ rock to keep warm. They do need live crickets to stay alive. They WILL smell bad if the cage is not cleaned regularly and most WILL bite. Keep all of that in mind. By the way crickets only last a few days after buying them and most iguanas will not eat dead crickets.

  8. i dont think so. water, food, N the right temperature.

  9. You have already been given excellent advice with regards to the diet and husbandry needs of an iguana. Do plently of research before you consider whether or not it is the pet for you.

If by any chance they do decide to let you handle them they will treat you like a tree. You will end up covered in scratches as they will dig their claws in to get a grip and often head for the highest vantage point they can get to (your head being a convenient step up to shelves etc)

I would not recommend them as a starter reptile, but wouldnt be without ours

  10. no not really, they are really chill they mostly just sit on their branches if there are any in the tank. they just require a certain amount of sunlight and its good to spray them with a little water once in a while.

  11. The care required for proper iguana husbandry is comparable to that of caring for an infant.  You make the call.

  12. All reptiles are relatively high maintenance compared to other pets. They all have specific needs and requirements which must be satisfied.
