iam from El Salvador and and iam planning to attend a community college in maryland iam not a resident or citizen but i have a work permit do i still have to pay out of state tuition or what can i do to pay in state tuition

  1. you will have to pay non resident tuition until you obtain a green card.  once you get a green card then you can be considered a resident and the college should refund the difference between non resident and resident tuition to you.


  2. There are two levels to this:

    Legal Resident of the US - as you have a work visa, you'll legally be allowed to attend school.

    Legal resident of the state - if you have lived in the state for more than a year without going to school you become eligible for in-state tuition.  However moving to a state and going to school, even for more than one year does not make you eligible for instate tuition.

    So... if you moved to your Maryland more than a year ago with a work permit, and now you'd like to go to school, you are eligible for instate tuition.  If you just want to drive in from another state, it's out-of-state tuition.

  3. I think you have to pay out of state tuition because you have to provide proof of residency and they'll also ask for your SS number and residence card

  4. I hope not.  In state tuition is for the taxpayers and their children from that state.
