  1. “They work hard’, that’s about all the love they will get. Crowding is the biggest fear. Forcing the US to change from English to Spanish as the main language is the second fear.

  2. From what I see and hear I would say so.

  3. Im from southern california, so their not to popular here with other races because they are crowding So Cal. Its ridiculous out here right now. The main problem i have with them is that they demand rights in a country that their not illegal in.

  4. There are a lot of mixed feelings towards immigrants from Mexico, but it greatly depends on whether they are legally here or not. A lot of people that I know generally don't like the idea of illegal immigrants coming over...reasons vary, but the main reason that I hear is language. People here don't like the idea of ever being forced to learn Spanish, especially since other immigrants (Chinese, Eastern Indian, etc.) come over already knowing english.

But I don't think there's that much hatred because people in the US understand that immigrants from Mexico are just trying to live a better life.

  5. Reading some of these responses, it disturbs me how misinformed so many Americans are about immigration and immigrants.  The generalizations that "they don't want to learn English" that they are "lazy", "taking jobs away from white people" and "taking all the freebies they can" are incorrect, contradictory to each other, and just plain closeminded.

Anyways, I would say that Mexican immigrants are definitely unpopular to the United States as a whole, and like others said "it depends on whether they're legal or not", though most Americans have no way to know if an immigrant is legal or not, and often assume people of color are illegal immigrants when they may not even be immigrants at all.

There have been many comparisons between the Mexican immigrants of today and the Irish immigrants from a couple centuries ago.  The Irish were, for a time, not considered white, and as they slowly integrated into American society, they also added things to American culture.  The Irish didn't take anything from American culture, they only enriched it - and that's what I feel the Mexicans of today are doing.  They aren't going to "take over" or "destroy white American culture".  The society as a whole is taking parts of their culture as they slowly integrate.  Assimilation is archaic and unreasonable to expect out of immigrants.  It's not even that desirable - to assimilate means to give up entirely on your past culture to become a member of the new culture - but racism is still rampant and even minorities who admit to being assimilated, for example many Chinese or Japanese Americans, they still suffer from mistreatment and racism because of their race.

I would also say that individuals or communities have their own opinions on respective immigrant groups, depending on the composition/demographics in their locale.

  6. They are far from the Irish immigrants from generations ago.

The people who came here generations ago brought values with them, a strong work ethic and built this country.  They would not take welfare or handouts or any of the other things immigrants of today are being handed.  The people who came here generations ago also learned English rapidly and knew full well that it was expected of them unlike the people coming here today who demand everything in their language.  The people coming here generations ago also didn't bring their dope, HIV, and all the rest.

I have very little respect for today's immigrants.
