  1. Inches/feet/meters/miles etc are units of linear measurement.  A linear measurement can only tell you about one dimension of something.  For example, my grassy field is 200 feet long.  Is there enough grass in my field to feed a cow?  You can't tell, because it might only be 1 inch wide.

    Square inches/square feet/square miles etc tell you about the area of something.  If my field was 200 feet long by 1 foot wide, it would have an area of 200 square feet.  If it was 200 feet long by 100 feet wide, it would have an area of 20,000 square feet, which might be enough space for a cow (I have no idea actually).

    So - your 6 x 10 piece has an area of 60 square inches.  This is not nearly enough room for a cow :)

  2. No. They are different. An inch measures a single dimension. (lines...or from point a to point b.) Square inches measures in two dimensional space. (a shape...a circle, rectangle etc.)

    A 6"x10" is 6 inches long and 10 inches wide but its 60 square inches.

  3. 6x 10 = 60 square inches

    suppose it was a box that was 2 inches tall would be 120 cubic inches

  4. 1 square inche is the area of a square whose side is 1 inch

  5. Area of an equilateral quadrilateral is length times width.

    6 x 10 == 60 inches

  6. Yeah, they're just about the same when measuring area.

  7. 6 linear inches by 10 linear inches equals 60 square inches. SO the answer is no, Inches are no the same as square inches.

    1"x1"= 1 square inch

  8. 60"  Lenght x width

  9. square inches are created by the area. as in units squared. squared is two dimensional. this would be 60 in squared because you are trying to find area.

  10. An inch is a measure of length with no width. A square inch in a measure of an object with length and width. The size of the piece in question is 6 * 10 = 60 square inches. The area of a rectangle is length times width

  11. A ruler measures length in inches.

    Cut a piece of paper into a square with each side being an inch long - that's a square inch.

    You measure area in square inches - length x width.  How many of those little one inch squares will fit in that space.

    So 6 inches x 10 inches = 60 inches (squared), or 60 sq-inches

  12. The answer is not 60 inches, it is 60 square inches in AREA. Similarly, if the piece were 2 inches thick, it would be 120 cubic inches in VOLUME.

  13. inches is a unit describing length

    square inches " " area

    cubic inches " " volume

    etc.

  14. 60'' just multiply to find area

  15. to get the dimensions in square inches of a 6"x10" piece you would multiply the length x width and get the area in square inches.  Which would be 6 x 10 = 60.  A square inch is a perfect square and each side equals 1".

  16. it just means you multiplied two measurements in inches

    think of it like this  if you multiplied 2 times 2 its the same as 2 squared or 2^2

    so if you multiplied 6 in by 10 in first you do the numbers to get 60 then the units in times in is in squared or in^2

  17. You multiply the dimensions.  6 x 10 = 60 inches within the whole piece.

  18. You multiply.  6 x 10 = 60 square inches.   length times width equals square.
