I don't want to sound rude but today everywhere i have been i have had to guess which way other road users are going, resulting a couple of times in near-misses, i am not a perfect driver but it would be nice if we could all consider other people's safety and not have to guess if they are turning left right or going straight across a roundabout, or am i from mars!!!

  1. hmmnn... have you perhaps seen drivers in T&T? I've been asking myself that question repeatedly, cause it is a rarely seen thing these days! Causing me many many times to hit the brakes hard, 'cause some j@ck just decided to make a right turn without indicating causing everyone around to almost cause an accident!

    Idiots!

p/s:- I thought this nonsense just happened here in T&T BTW.

  2. no they are a neccessity and any one that drives and doesnt use them when needed should not have a licence.

  3. Well, I live in Canada. I think this problem is universal!

Everyone has his/her own agenda these days. Life is different than it was years ago.

Signal indicators are used because we just can't shout out loud enough to be heard (said tongue in cheek). It's a communication device, just like brake lights are. Some drivers are just less communicative and more aggressive in their driving (and probably life too) habits.

All I can say is that each of us has to look out for the next driver and what they might do. I would suggest that you continue to improve your scanning and observation skills and continually make attempts to try to predict what that OTHER driver might do next.

I am also from mars by the way.......hahaha!

  4. No there are necessity.

  5. From where I am from it seams they they are an option for all types of vehicles.................

  6. In answer to your question. I doubt very much that you are from mars!!!

  7. In London, yes I think they are!  I so want to knock on people's windows and say "excuse me, but I think your indicators are broken"!

  8. people who don't indicate often think everyone around them is a mind reader or are physic's and we should already know in which direction they are travelling

  9. sadly there are many idiots on the road

  10. You are right to criticise this non use of indicators, I am sure some people think the stalk is just to hang something on. I have had about 3 near misses because of ignorant drivers not using their indicators.

My golden rule is if you always indicate, and if there was an accident, no one can say,I didn't know which way you were going.

  11. Whenever You are driving, You are thinking for 80% of drivers out there, so statistically 4 out of 5 people reading My answer is a useless driver.

  12. BMW and Mercedes drivers seem particularly keen to not wear out their indicator bulbs...

  13. In Canada, I assume that indicator lights are an optional extra, as hardly anyone has had them installed on their vehicles!!!!!

I have also noticed that drivers of really expensive cars, pick-ups etc. Who have spent thousands on their cars, are too tight to have had the indicators connected!!!!!!

Also that they have not had the brakes installed correctly, looking at the amount of times they roll through a stop sign!

  14. Sometimes you have to be very careful when using indicators on roundabouts,.

A lot of new roundabouts are 'lane marked' where you have to follow a specific route.

I made an error recently whilst driving in an unfamiliar area where I entered a roundabout with a two lane entry and exit, in the 'outside lane' ( normally right and straight on).

As I was about to exit, also in the outside lane, I indicated, and the car next to me in the inside slammed on its brakes and was rear ended by a van behind.

We all stopped, police called, and I was accused by some whizzened old phart that He thought I was going to change lanes in front of him rather than just exit the roundabout.

The police advice - don't indicate if you are on a lane marked layout as it confuses other drivers.

Make sense of that if you can.
