Are internet quilting groups or clubs worth joining?

What are some good ones where you can just talk with fellow quilters about the hobby or craft? Where they have a wide range of levels.. beginner to experienced? Anyone have any ideas about these groups?

  1. there are a bunch of quilters groups on Yahoo! Groups. You have to go visiting to see which you fit into.

There is a good forum on About.com that is very active and most of the time very interesting.

I think on About's sister site Delphi Forums there are several good quilters groups also.

the site on BellaOnLine.com for quilting is most interesting too.

I have visited most of them, but have changed frequencies and am now into spinning and weaving more so than quilting. Go surfing and have a lot of fun. Remember you can unjoin even as fast as you join if the company doesn't exactly meet your expectations..

  2. Yahoo Groups has several thousand quilting groups. Some are better at staying on track than others, so join a few until you find one that suits you.

Google also has a number of quilt related groups:

If you're familiar with Flickr, that's a great place to join groups, too. This actually works well for quilters because it's photo oriented. You upload your photos, write about them, add them to groups, and use the discussions feature in the groups.

Finally, there are about eighty gazillion blogs by quilters. Blogs are a great place to find tutorials, suggestions and inspirations. Here's a starting point:

  3. I've never made a quilt, but I'm wanting to learn how. I receive newletter from Quilter's World by Sandra L. Hatch in my email box. It's free to subscribe to and the email address is: QuiltersWorld@DRGnewsletter.com. I just received an email this week from them and I found there is section where you can email Sandra Hatch directly with questions or help with your quilting project. I hope this helps you.

  4. Some are a lot better than others.  I prefer the newsgroup rec.crafts.textiles.quilting.  Mad bunch, very chatty, they eat spammers alive and cook trolls, but are, in all other ways extremely friendly, helpful and supportive.
