  1. Well, getting a break cue in general is certainly a good idea. Break cues are made to hit hard, and will reduce the wear and tear on your playing cue if you have one.

In theory I'd say get a seperate break and jump cue, but I understand that's it's not very cost effective, as there simply aren't that many really good break-only cues that's are fairly cheap. For most people, j/b cues are a great option to improve their breaking and jumping, regardless of the fact that they won't perform quite as well as seperate cues.

I have a Kaiser j/b I bought from an ebay store that is really a great cue for the money. It breaks very well and jumps pretty well and only cost me $60 plus shipping. I suggest you look into one of those if you're not looking to spend a couple hundred bucks.

  2. no they are no good.

  4. They can be helpful if you really know how to jump a cue ball. Most people will hit very low and scoop under it to jump the ball. This is a foul in BCA (Billiard Congress of America) rules. The proper way to jump a ball is to hit down on it, using the slate to bounce the ball back up. Jump cues are made with this in mind. You don't need a special cue to scoop under a ball. As far as breaking, I use a different cue because I am using much more force.

  5. Matt is right about if you can afford it its best to have seporate jump and break cues.  The reason being when you put the 2 together you are taking away from the break cue hit some because the more joints you have  the less solid the cue is going to be.  I have a jacoby jump cue and I have been using a players hustler cue with a phenalic tip/ferrel and it hits great.  Keep rackn em up!

  6. Really Depends.

Some people can get to dependent on jump cues and it takes away from the kicking ability....

But if you feel that you think you can do it and do it productively, then I would tell you to go ahead and get one.  It is your game that will be affected by your choice whether good or bad.

Just do not get to dependent either way.
