As a means for a self defence weapon, would kali sticks, or escrima sticks be legal in California? Or were they banned as well.

  1. Rob had a great answer.

Look at is like this, if you played baseball / softball instead of training in martiaL art you whould probably had a big wooden stick called a bat in your car, or on your person.  No problem it's just a peice of athletic equipment.

If you smash somebody's head in with it you may run into trouble.

The action is illeagal not the athletic equipment

Having said that if you are showing off swinging them around walking down the street an Officer may have a few questions for you

  2. ... and guns are?

hmm... i've seen Gov Terminator carrying things more violent than escrima sticks

  3. I don't know about california but in san francisco people are probably more likely to sit on them than use them for self-defence.

  4. Legal in what sense?  To carry, yes there is no law against carrying a couple of sticks.

To strike someone with, it's still illegal to committ battery although if you can prove self-defense you may not get charged or found not-guilty.
