  1. are you having a laugh.

  2. No, and you need a test if your licence was issued after 1991 to tow a trailer

edit-I stand corrected Dave J - thank you, think I'm mixed up with driving personnel carriers and 1991 D1 issue

  3. nope it tells you that on the back of your provisional driving licence and if you go Directgov-motoring it will tell you what you can and can't do with a learners licence

  4. Driving licence categories will prevent any provissional licence holders from towing a caravan, this is because they are not entitled to a B+E licence.

A seperate test is required which you take for trailers which costs £100.00, and is usuallly conducted at the lorry type test centres.

Any drivers that held a Full licence before 1997, are allowed to tow trailers and caravans. But generally speaking recently qualified or learner drivers are prohibited to tow. Small trailers are allowed, there are so many restrictions that apply, you have to make calculations to the trailer masses, etc.

  5. no not at all, your not even allowed on a motorway for god sake so why would you be able to tow a caravan!!

  6. Absolutely not!

You cannot tow any form of trailer until after you have passed your basic car test, AND taken the supplementary 'trailer test'

  7. no

  8. Absoleutly NOT. Same as you can't drive a car unsupervised.

Hope this helps and have a good weekend .

Edit ;-   Sandee, they do make caravans with steering, they are called Motorhomes.

  9. As the others have said, the answer is no. Wouldn't it be nice if they made caravans with engines and steering etc., so no-one would need to tow them?

  10. No, and you can't even when you DO pass your test, unless it is under MAM 750kgs, unless you take an extra test B+E

edit - bossywoman, the new restrictions came in 1 Jan 1997 :)

  11. The answer is no, you need to develop normal skills first.
