Are literary elements and literary devices the same thing?

I am doing homework and i just need to know whether literary elements and literary devices are the same thing. Thanks!

  1. For the most part, yes.  I have never come across a clear differentiation between the two.  The only difference I could possible think of between elements and devices is that elements are features such as exposition, climax, stanzas, rhyme scheme, dialog, and stage directions and devices are special tricks an author adds such as irony, figurative language, imagery, alliteration.
