Are live worms/nightcrawlers good baits for largemouth bass?

Question

I've started fishing at this small 50-acre lake. Are worms and nightcrawlers good for bass fishing on the banks of a lake. This lake is open water and has no structures of some sort. Where should I fish and at what time?

In my area there is no use in using worms or night crawlers for bass bait- the sunfish will be too active feeding on them to catch a bass. But then again, the plastic worms and lizards work very well for bass, and the sun fish hardly ever hit them.

I guess that each area of the country is different .Try them and see.Good luck!

I use them all day long but I use a Garcia Mitchell 300 reel with 10lb line mono or 20lb braid and I use a size 2 or 4 hook depending on the size of the crawler

I hook it so it looks like a live worm and just toss it out gently and watch it sink - if you don't have many bluegills you should do well - I've had bass come out and bang it while it's sinking - some right after it hits the water and others follow it to the bottom and look at it a few times - take it in their mouth a few times and spit it out a few times before they finally eat it.

I try to stay back far enough from the edge so they don't see me... I make mental notes where I've seen nice bass before and will cast towards that area.

  If you have a 6ft rod too and you're golden...

night crawlers are excellent bait for bass. i use them frequently in the st. lawrence river. i always put the hook a foot or more above the small sinker i use, to keep it off the bottom. i've found that slow cranking, and occasional jigging of the bait draws attention to it. around a pond, try to keep the sun in front or over you, not casting a shadow over the water. i would try casting sideways under over hanging branches of trees, and a few feet out from any logs,where a fish may be lurking. good luck try early am, as the sun is coming up, and around 2-4 in the afternoon, and 7-8 in the early evening before sundown

Those will work fine. I use a castmaster when that or powerbait isn't working. Just dont come to my lake.. lol

forget the live bait and get some plastic worms and lizards with a slip sinker and rigged Texas style weedless- you'll catch more bass and your hands wont stink!

YES! worms/nightcrawlers are very good  for Largemouth Bass.  But the best bait to use for Largemouth Bass is Berkley PowerBait  (rubber worms) you will catch Largemouth Bass all day with them.  The best time to fish for them is early morning 5am-10am or at night the afternoon is not the best time but I have caught Bass in the afternoon before.  Try to find some weed beeds in the water if you can Bass tend to hang around there.

some of the biggest citation bass in VA have come from a nightcrawler and a bobber even though that's not what i use to catch em. Normally i use artificial lures or minnows, but worms definately work!
