  1. OK - simple answer?

It depends on what you mean by 'easier'

Longboards tend to be more stable and floatier. you can catch waves easier with them, further out and with less paddling effort, but they're harder to get through a beach break, as they float too well to duckdive - I ride a 9'2" and I'm 230lbs and even I can't shove the nose down. When you ride a longboard the style is cruisier, and often more about carving long lazy turns and moving on the boards.

Shortboards react a lot faster, are skiddier/slidier and in general can cope with a steeper wave face. They require better paddling technique and wave judgement to catch a wave, but you can move them around a lot better once on the wave.

Bear in mind that there is a 'theoretical' minimum size of board you'll be able to use - I've heard it said that unless you're really good you won't be able to use a board much less that your height + 6 inches.

  2. long boards are easier to get on to and more stable then a short board.

  3. I learned on a 6'8 board, and I think it's easier to balance on, but harder to maneuver through the waves, as a new surfer. I tried a shorty, and I found it easier, but probably because I already felt a little comfortable from the long board.

  4. whoa r u serious ummm course longboards are easier

their long and thicker making them eiser to balance on short boards are harder cause their short and thin duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  5. Ride?  Yes.  Maneuver?  No.

  6. since longboards arre super long, thick and wide its much easier to pop up on a wave

    as to a shortboard

    has a point nose

much shorter so ur feet dangle at the bottom of the board

and they're very thin soo its for intermediate to advanced surfing

    soo yeahh

    hope I helped.!

  7. no because it is alot easier to get up and standing on a long board because it is alot longer and thicker then a short board, therefore making it alot more stable to learn how to stand up on.

once you can stand up quickly and with no problem then switch to a shorter board

  8. its easier to carve it up on a short board but its easier to just get a smooth ride on a long
