Question:

Are long course sectional swimming cuts harder than short course cuts?

It seems like the long course cuts have a faster converted time. For example why is it that I am only about 6.5 seconds off from a sectional cut it the 200 yard fly, but in long course I am about 12 seconds off the sectional cut in the 200 M fly. Please help me! It is bugging me to death...

  1. It probably means that you have fast turns. (At least that's what I told myself when the same thing happened to me.)

My advice: Make sure you do over-distance training in fly -- in a long course pool. Work up to 300 or 400 repeats by mid-season to build up a base. Then start introducing more speed.

  2. I had a similar experience in 200 breast.

I think you need to realize that 200 sc breast / fly is a much different race than 200 lc.  It sounds like you have great turns but you lack some flat out stroke endurance for the long course laps, which is necessary.  The best solution is probably more long course training.  Also maybe work on extending your walls in long course.  Watch videos of the 200fly from worlds and see how long they stay under.

  3. for the events I swim at least they are the same, just converted. Long course is harder for some, easier for others because of the obvious lack of walls in a 50m pool.  Work on your endurance fly and really working those few turns to your advantage (however small it may be, god i love turns during butterfly, lol) and you should bring your time down. also remember your fastest long course time was from the end of last summer while your fastest short cousre time was fro mjust a few mo.s ago. (unless you converted your sc time to lc) I, like you have had a hard time finding the list of sectional times so if you find them like on USA swimming then PLEASE TELL ME!!!

  4. u must have great turns but in long course  u r lacking endurance

nd cuz in short course u get a rest at the turns and more turns wif uw nd stuff
